Hard to believe almost a decade had already gone by since seeing the Canadian premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years.
The production, which was staged at the Firehall Arts Centre in Vancouver, BC, starred Matt Palmer as Jaime and Barbara Tomasic as Cathy.
It was a very simple production in that very intimate theatre, minimalist at its best with a small orchestra in the background.
The intermission-less play went by so smoothly and so fast I felt like I was just listening to the cast recording, this time with visuals. Matt and Barbara played their parts with such incredible chemistry and necessary disconnect that I felt they should have at least earned a cast recording, especially since this is the first time it was staged in Canada.
