Vancouver Fringe Feature: Curious Contagious

A darkly comedic modern fairy tale genetically spliced with a surreal educational science film, Mind of a Snail’s Curious Contagious will play at the 2016 Vancouver Fringe Festival, bringing the same spectacle as their Pick of the Fringe, Caws & Effect.

A stressed out Unicorn falls ill while building a giant donut shop. Meanwhile, a pair of quirky viruses search for the perfect place to replicate.

The story is told using layers of shadow puppetry techniques, physical comedy, music, overhead projectors, and a large number of detailed cutouts.

Curious Contagious is the new creation of Vancouver based Mind of a Snail.  The duo consisting of Chloe Ziner and Jessica Gabriel, has been developing multilayered styles of visual storytelling using overhead projectors as their main light source. Curious Contagious won Patron’s Pick at Toronto Fringe, and Most Daring Show at London Fringe.

Mind of a Snails’ previous work, Caws & Effect won awards in London, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, and Vancouver Fringes.

Recommended for adults and children 8+, Curious Contagious plays at the Waterfront Theater as part of the 2016 Vancouver Fringe Festival September 10 to 18.
