One of the highlights of the production was the cast’s stellar performances. The leads brought the beloved characters to life with their exceptional talents. The portrayal of Anastasia by the Rebecca Hartman (covering for Veronica Stern) in the titular role was both vulnerable and determined, capturing the character’s journey of self-discovery with grace and depth. The chemistry between Anastasia and her love interest, Dmitry, played by Willem Butler was palpable, with their duets filled with emotion and longing. The supporting cast lead by Christian McQueen as Gleb, Geri Weagraff as Dowager Empress, Bryan Seastrom as Vlad, and Madeline Raube as Countess Lily among others, delivered memorable performances that added depth and humor to the story. The ensemble shone, showcasing their talent that added quality to the show.

The musical numbers were a true highlight of the production. The show’s score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens was beautifully performed by the cast and orchestra, including beloved songs such as Journey to the Past, Once Upon a December, and In My Dreams. In addition to these, other songs I really enjoyed were My Petersburg, Still, and The Countess and the Common Man. These iconic tunes were performed with soaring vocals and powerful emotions, leaving the audience humming along and moved by the characters’ struggles and triumphs, complimented by beautiful choreography by Bill Burns recreating the original work by Peggy Hickey.
The production values were also a standout aspect of the show, with sets were intricately designed, transporting the audience from the opulence of the Russian royal palace to the gritty streets of 1920s Paris. The costumes by Linda Cho were a visual feast, with elegant gowns, military uniforms, and period attire that added authenticity to the story’s historical setting.
At the heart of Anastasia was a heartfelt and resonant story of love, family, and resilience. The themes of self-discovery, identity, and overcoming adversity were powerfully portrayed, touching the hearts of the audience. The show struck a balance between moments of levity and emotional depth, drawing laughter and tears from the captivated audience.
